Viola was a kind and caring woman, who gave it to you as it was. And always had time for people. She would welcome you in.
She was always willing to listen and offer advice, but you had to be sure you were strong enough to ask.
Viola passed away peacefully at her home on September 12, 2024, at the age of 72. She was born on June 02, 1952, to Hattie and Ralph Winfrey. She is preceded in going home to glory by her brothers; Jessie Spruille, Jim Winfrey, Johnny Winfrey, and Charles Winfrey, and her sisters; Rosetta Winfrey Woodard, Ella Winfrey and Rebecca Winfrey. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Leola Winfrey (Samuel) young of Memphis, TN and brother, Ralph Winfrey, Jr. of Inglewood, CA.
In 1972, Viola married James E. Carthen of Ruleville, MS. James went home to glory in 2016. Viola and James live on in their children, James E. Winfrey of Ruleville, MS, Sonya Carthen (Takeo) Clark of Jackson, MS., and Reginald J. (Kelly) Carthen of Loganville, GA., and Leake (Morela) Harris of Cordova, TN.
She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved without end. A host of nieces and nephews, her adoptive in love son and daughters.
She will be greatly missed but the love she shared will continue to live on in our memories forever and as she often said, "EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT".
