Van Sherrod, Jr. was born September 12, 1947 in Leflore County, MS to the late Van Sherrod Sr. and May Frances Sherrod, he was a member of Victory Outreach Ministries in Shaw, MS under the leadership of Pastor Herman Bass until his passing.

Van was preceded in death by a son, Van Sherrod III, five sisters: Dorothy Mae Sherrod, Mattie Sherrod, Mary D. Sherrod, Pearl Burnette, Ethel Lee Wright and one brother, James Otis.

Van leaves to cherish his memories a loving and caring wife, Sylvia Sherrod, seven sons: Danny (Sherricona) Sherrod, Cleveland, MS, Joe Sherrod, Memphis, TN, Derrick (Jamie) Sherrod, Drew, MS, Terrance Sherrod, Memphis, TN, Antwon (Donna) Simpson, Clarksdale, MS, Jim Clayton, Keith Birdlong, Itta Bena, MS; five daughters, Sherrita (Kasey) Washington, Drew, MS, Vanessa, Ajoa Birdlong, Shaw, MS, Tona (Derrick) Shorter, Bolivar, TN, and Takomi Anderson, Greenwood, MS; four brothers: Bennie (Mary) Sherrod, Sidon, MS, F.M. Sherrod, Tchula, MS, Jack (Carolyn) Sherrod and Kenneth Sherrod, Greenwood, MS; three sisters; Bonnie(Frank) Thomas, Sally Mae Sherrod, Itta Bena, MS, Ethel (Roosevelt) Davenport, Morgan City; thirty grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
