Tyson Damon Rivels was born August 1, 1977 in Cleveland, MS to Jessie Rivels, Jr. and Flora Lee (Knot) Archie Rivels.  Tyson was the only child born to this union.  He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Tommy Rivers and a sister Bobbie Jean Rivers.  Tyson accepted Christ at an early age.  He also rededicated his life to Christ in another baptism on November 18, 2023 under the leadership of Pastor Richard Hudson.  He was a member of Charity of Peace M.B. Church until his untimely demise.

Tyson grew up in Rosedale, MS.  As he was coming of age, he took a keen interest in the sport of basketball.  He attended West Bolivar High School and graduated in 1996/  Tyson was an important member of the Boys Basketball Team.  He received many MVP awards and All-County recognitions.  His talent was undeniable and he was a major part of the team's success from his 8th grade school year until his graduation.  After his graduation from high school, his talents led him to receive many basketball scholarships.  Tyson eventually accepted a basketball scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University.  He played basketball for the Delta Devils until he graduated in May 2000; in which he received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education.  After graduating, Tyson "wore many hats" within his community.  The most important of these was being a mentor, friend, and confidant for people of all ages.  Tyson also worked as a teacher, correctional officer and most recently an Anima Control Officer for the city of Cleveland.

Tyson enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  His calm and warm demeanor led him to be a positive influence on those he met.  As he grew older, he grew stronger and knowledgeable in his faith.  This led to Tyson always offering a spiritual word to those he came in contact with whenever he felt the need.

Tyson departed his life on the evening of March 26, 2026, at his home in Cleveland.  He leaves to mourn his passing a fiance, Shelia Webb; his 6 children, Ashley Cooper (Rosedale, MS), Martika Rivels (Dickinson, TX), Kezia Miller (Rosedale, MS), Trenton Rivels (Cleveland, MS), Shakira Webb (Cleveland, MS) and Shaquitta Smith (Robinsonville, MS); His sisters:  Audra Archie (Rosedale, MS), Jacqueline Johnson (Chicago, IL), Hilary Gillon ( Memphis, TN), Marshell Nelson (California), Vanessa Mosley (Memphis, TN), Stacy (Corey) Smothers (West Memphis, Arkansas), Latoya Beasley (Cleveland, MS); His brothers:  Larry Rivers (Nashville, TN), Darryl Rivers  Marion, Arkansas), Glenn Lanton (Memphis, TN), Marcus (Toni) Rivers (Louisville, MS); Three God-sisters:  Lakesha Nash, Lakesha Butler and Louise Sykes.  His grandchildren, Ava Cooper, Mazyera Miller, Xamaria Miller and Carlia Lakes; Two special nephews, Jeremy Johnson and Stevenson "Tre" Archie; A host of loving aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Lastly, his special number 8 family and friends.
