Spencer Melvin "Fox" SPELLS

February 19, 1952 - March 22, 2025

Spencer Melvin "Fox" Spells was born on February 19, 1952 in Hollandale, Mississippi to the late Everette and Maggie Lee Spells.

After attending Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, Melvin began his career at General Motors.  His dedication and hard work led him to a rewarding 33-year career, after which he retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence.

Melvin accepted Christ into his life at a young age.  In 2018, he rededicated his life to Christ when he became a proud member of Mount Zion M.B. Church, where he continued to grown in his faith and share his love for the Lord.

Known for his gregarious personality, Melvin was the life of every party.  His love for dancing was evident to anyone who knew him-he was always the first one on the dance floor, spreading joy and energy wherever he went.  Beyond dancing, Melvin cherished the quiet moments too, spending early mornings fishing, nurturing his garden and land, and grilling up delicious meals as the family's favorite grill master.

On March 22, 2025, Spencer Melvin "Fox" Spells transitioned to his Heavenly home.  Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Spells and Maggie Lee Spells; four brothers, Everett Curtis Spells Jr. (Lucy), Wille "Pete" Spells; Johnnie Spells (Beverly), and Cecil Spells; one brother-in-law, Clifford Churchill; one sister-in-law, Gwen Spells; and one grandchild, Joseph Dennard Brown Spells.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memories:  loving wife, Carolyn Gordon-Spells; six daughters, Melanie Blackmon (William), Katrina Walker (Jimmie), Felisha Gaiter (Bennell), Tia Spells-Holloway (Detre), Tia Johnson, and Jessica Gordon; one son, Melvin Spells Jr.; eight siblings:  Mary Turentine (John), Euola Churchill, James "Joe" Spells (Lisa), Charles Spells (Elisa), Roy Spells, Robert Earl, Dorothy Brown (Arthur), and Milton Spells (Jeannie); ten grandchildren and a hosto of great grandchildren.
