"God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, He gently closed your loving eyes, and whispered, "Peace Be Thine" The weary hours, the pain, and the sleepless nights have passed, the very patient worn out frame has now found sweet rest again."

Sheryl Elaine Nelson was born August 31, 1956, in Drew, Mississippi to the union of the late, Rev. Charles J. Nelson and Mamie Lovelace Nelson. She was the last born of eleven children.

She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. T. L. Richardson at the Holly Grove M. B. Church in Drew, Mississippi. Currently, she was the secretary of the church, trustee member, Youth Ministry Team, and a member of the Mothers and Mission Board.

She was a 1974 graduate of Drew High School (Drew, Mississippi). In 1978, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in business administration from Mississippi Valley State University (Itta Bena, Mississippi).

She was a member of Iota Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Sheryl was employed as an accountant at the Department of Corrections in Parchman, Mississippi for over 25 years.

She departed this life on December 27, 2024, in Jackson, Mississippi. Her parents, Rev. C. J. and Mamie Nelson, five brothers: Charles, Sidney, Jimmy, Harold and Eugene Nelson; one sister, Annola Nelson Higgins preceded her in death.

Sheryl leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Christopher Alexander of Drew, MS; one brother, Donald (Ruby) Nelson, Sr. of Drew, MS; three sisters, Lelar (Paul) Corbett of Waynesville, MO; Maeola Nelson of Drew, MS; Dorothy Glover of Walls, MS; three sister-in-law, Lillie Nelson of Dolton, IL, Linda Nelson of Drew, MS, and Ruby Nell Nelson of Ruleville, MS; one grandson, Dayln Alexander; Demarianna, Charlie, and Damien Lomax who she treated as her grandchildren and their mother, Sharise Fairley; Richard Alexander, a long-time friend of Ruleville, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
