Ruth Evelyn Sharp Lee was the youngest of the nine living children born to the late Peter and Mattie Sharp on September 1, 1939 in Deeson, MS.  At the age of three, she appeared in Cleveland, OH at Open-Door Baptist Church and since that first public appearance, she consistently sung throughout her grade school and high school (McEvans High School - Shaw, MS) as a soloist or in a group.  She peacefully fell into the loving arms of God on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

She confessed hope in Christ and was baptized at the age of six at Poplar Grove M.B. Church then under the leadership of the late Rev. E.W. Brown.  At the age of ten, her father organized a female family group called "Sharp and Parker Sisters."  By the time she was 16, she was singing with "The Ray Brooks Singers" on WDIA Radio Station in Memphis, TN and continued to do so til the age of 18.  In the late 1960's, she made two television appearances on Channel 26 in Chicago, IL.

Ruth attended Mississippi Valley State College in Itta Bena, MS ( now Mississippi Valley State University) before joining her sisters in Chicago, where she was employed at Cook County Hospital as a nurse aide.  She married Rev. Epsie Lee on August 28, 1971 and in 1974, she wrote and recorded "Galilee", the Chess Recording Company in Chicago, IL.  While in Chicago, she continued her education at Prairie State College and  Chicago State University earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Child Development.  In 1982, she received her certification as a nurse's assistant at Advanced Technical Training Center in Oak Forest, IL.

While she became better educated, she also became stronger in the spirit of the Lord as well.  She was passionate about her God, her family, and her music.  As such, she was choir director at Kedvale New Mt. Zion Church of Chicago, IL.  After her marriage to Rev. Epsie Lee, she served as First Lady of St. John M.B. Church of Harvey, IL and so served until her husband health failed in 1992.

Over the years she traveled and sung at numerous revivals at various churches and in various cities.  While in Chicago, she appeared with singers such as Ernest Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, Roberta Martina and the Barrett Sisters.  Her many written/recorded songs can be found on itunes and Youtube.

In 2006, she relocated to Greenville, MS with her husband and reunited with Poplar Grove M.B. Church then under the leadership of Rev. Theodore Cochran and remained there under the present leadership of Rev. James Moore.  At Poplar Grove, she served as choir director and she developed a puppet program to minister to children.  After the death of her husband in August 2016, she united with Cornerstone Church and received what she believed was a message from God.

Ruth's legacy will live on in her daughter; TaWanna Lee of Las Vegas, NV; stepchildren, Constance Hugley of Dallas, TX, Cyrese Pasell of Warne, GA, Joel Lee (Tracey) of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Melvin Sharp of Greenville and Peter Sharp(Easter) of Shaw, MS; her two sisters, Anice Jordan of Greenville, MS and Mildred Duckworth of Greenville, MS; her sister-in-law, Mary Dee Sharp of Shaw, MS; two special nieces, Evelyn and Ashley White of Chicago, IL; her best friends, Dorothy Higgins and Ella Baker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
