Roosevelt Matthews, Sr., a proud father, grandfather, brother, and uncle went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.  He was born on April 15, 1963 to the late Perry Matthews and Dorthy B. Morris in Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

He was a graduate of West Bolivar High School and Mississippi Delta Community College.  He worked at Cives Steel for over 20 years until he took ill in December of 2023.  He enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and fiancee.  Roosevelt was the unquestionable family patriarch.  He instilled a tradition of toughness, love, faith, and family with a respectful rigor of command.

Roosevelt went home to be with the Lord at the age of 60.  His father, Perry Matthews, mother, Dorthy B. Morris, sister, Selina Shavers, and brother, Issac Matthews, all preceded him in death.

Roosevelt is survived by his three loving children, one daughter, Lynitra Newell of Blue Island, IL, and two sons, Roosevelt Matthews, Jr. (Brittany) of Cleveland, MS, and Terrance Matthews (Ka'Sarine) of Houlka, MS; two granddaughters, Nyla Matthews of Colorado Springs, CO, and Kynzli Matthews of Houlka, MS; four brothers, Perry Matthews, Jr. (Beatrice) of Pace, MS, Willie C. Matthews of Chicago, IL, Frank Matthews of Mound Bayou, MS, and Kendrick Pleasant of Nantucket, MA; sisters, Bobby Jackson of Pace, MS, Bertha Matthews of Rosedale, MS, Regina Vaughn of Chicago, IL, Sonya Vaughn of Chicago, IL, and Teretha Robinson of Memphis, TN; loving fiancee, Doristine Gadison of Rosedale, MS; one special niece/daughter, Deshundra Matthews of Rosedale, MS; special friend, Dave Johnson of Beulah, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
