Rev. Charles Edward McDavis Sr.  entered this world on July 26, 1946 in Beulah, MS. He was the son of the late Jack McDavis and  the late Ms. Annie Lou Vardaman. Rev. McDavis' maternal grandmother the late Geraldine Prentis assisted in rearing him. He received his early education in the Pace Public School System. He was drafted to the United States Army on March 21, 1968. As a Private [E-1] he helped to preserve the freedoms and rights we all enjoy today. He completed Basic Training at the United States Army Training Center, in Fort Benning, Georgia.

He served during the Vietnam War where he served his country with distinguished honor as evident by the numerous accolades he received to include the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medical w/60 Device, Air Medal, w/ CAK Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars and Army Commendation Medal. He served a total of three years with dignity as an Army Soldier in Vietnam, including aiding with the evacuation and fall of Saigon. He was wounded during the evacuation of the Embassy, and received other commendations for his dedication and bravery.

The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest.  After serving his country he met and married the love of his life Dorothy Burks McDavis. From this union, two children, Renee' (Frederick) Christian, Kennesaw, GA and Charles McDavis Jr. (fiancé: Stephanie), Senatobia, MS. He worked several years at Douglas and Lomason Manufacturing Company.

Upon his retirement, Rev. McDavis was called into the ministry in 2006. He received his Bachelors and Masters of Theology from Tennessee School of Religion. He was ordained by Rev. Dr. Joe C. Smith.  He Pastored the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Cleveland, MS until his demise.

Rev. McDavis was preceded in death by his (father) Jack McDavis, (mother) Annie Lou Vardaman, (brothers) Jack McDavis Jr., Danny Smith, Wilbert Bradley, and James McDavis,  (sister) Gloria McDavis and a special cousin, Julia Underwood.

His memories are left to be cherished by his sisters, Cora Green, Willie Mae Clark, Julia "woman" Hemingway, Lutecha McDavis (William) Lacey, Lueaster Fisher, Jacqueline McDavis, and Ruthie Mae. Brothers: Louis Vardaman (Viola), Richard Vardaman,  Timothy Smith, God Daughter, Raven Barnes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
