Loving, caring, kind, funny, hard-working, and awesome are ll words to describe Melvin Lamar Young- a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.  Melvin gained his wings on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Delta Regional Medical Center.  Melvin's smile and personality will always be remembered trough those who cared and knew him most.

Melvin Lamar Young was born Tuesday, October 11, 1960 in Washington County,Mississippi to the late Johnnie and Rebecca Burden.  Melvin acquired a rich legacy of faith, family, and character as a child raised in Leland, Mississippi.  Melvin was known by many as Big Tank or Tank and was the tenth child of this union.  He was taught the principles of hard work, honesty, and perseverance by his parents.  Melvin and Jacqueline were united in holy matrimony on July 8, 2005.  To this union five beautiful children were united as a family.

Melvin attended Breisch High School in Leland, Mississippi and went on to acquire his bachelor's degree from Alcorn State University in Engineering.  After leaving Alcorn State University, he became an employee of USDA-ARS and went on to further his career at MDOT as an Engineer Technician 5, where he retired May 30, 2020.

Melvin was taught the importance of Christ and Christianity at a young age and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Pilgrim home Missionary Baptist Church.  He became a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 2019 under the leadership of Reverend Bobbie Williams.  Melvin lived a life full of happiness and joy.  He was a joy to be around- always laughing, making others laugh, and having a good time.  He enjoyed watching sports, crime investigation shows, and spending time with family and friends.

Melvin leaves his legacy of love to his wife Jacqueline Clayton-Young, his children whom he love so dear, Teheshia Brook so Atlanta, GA; Jonthan Bush of Leland, MS; step-children, Danny (Miranda) Clayton, Sr. of Snellville, GA; Nikkia (LaTonya) Clayton of Cleveland, MS and a special son whom he raised, Patrick (Malarie) Bush of McKinney, TX; sister Betty Anthony of Calumet Park, IL; Helen Ackles of Sterling, VA; Monique Ford (Efren) of Leland, MS; brothers, Albert (Yoland) Young, Jr. of Eagen, MN; Willie (Jethella) Young of Harvey, IL; Richard Young of Leland, MS; Eddie (Leah) Benford of Hot Springs, SD; uncle, Willie Watson of Country Club Hills, IL; aunts, Earlene (Joe) Thompson of Memphis, TN and Catherine Watson of Chicago, IL; 3 god-children, Auldrey Nathaniel, Jo-kwon Nathaniel, and KeyAsia Jackson; sister-in-law's, Tammy (John) Broom and Tawanda Latham of Cleveland, MS; brother-in-law's, Edwin Latham of Cleveland, MS and Kevin (Toccura) Latham of Renova, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Rebecca Burden; three brothers, James, Jimmy and Arthur Trotter; sisters, Dorothy Jones and Lula Hurse; grandmother, Louvenia Watson; and aunt, Sarah Wallace.
