Melvin E. Sharp was born August 17, 1927 in Moorhead, Mississippi.  He was the fifth born to the late Peter and Mattie Sharp.  Melvin was baptized at the age of 12 at the Mt. Avery Missionary Baptist Church in Moorhead, MS under the leadership of Reverend O.C. Peece.  Melvin went to school and worked with his family until the age of 17.  He left for Memphis to live with his aunt Malinda.  Melvin then made is way to Cleveland, OH. to live with his aunt Augusta and uncle Lynn Hall.

Melvin traveled and had many adventures and met his longtime friend Charles Reaves.  He found his way to Chicago, Il, worked in the steel mills and circled back to Ohio.  While in Ohio Melvin joined the United States Army on December 14, 1950.  Melvin was sent to and stationed in Camp Breckenridge in Louisville, Kentucky then transferred to Fort Meade, MD.  While stationed at Fort Meade, Melvin met Lucille Wingfield and they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 7, 1952.  They were married for 39 years, 8 months and 29 days until her death on February 5, 1992.  Lucille was the love of Melvin's life.  After they were married Melvin then left the service and entered Radio and Television school on the GI Bill.  While working on radios and televisions, Melvin began work for General Motors and remained there for the next 30 years and retired May 1, 1983.

in 1970 Melvin and a couple friends purchased a couple of Oil trucks and went into the oil business.  They left the business and Melvin continued on and developed the Alpo Fuel Co.  He kept his company for 26 years until he left Baltimore in April 1996.  When Melvin left Baltimore he found a new home in Greenville, MS.  He renewed his faith in God and joined the family church at Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Shaw, MS. where he became a faithful servant which lead him to become a Deacon of the church.

Melvin was a phenomenal storyteller and a great comedian.  He would keep you in stitches and have you wanting more.   A great and loyal friend loved people and was a generous person, never selfish. A great brother, father, grandfather and uncle.  The World's best Cook better known as the BBQ King with no doubt.  Melvin E. Sharp was the Epitome of his name...                                                                                                         He was SHARP!

Melvin leaves to mourn his daughter Myria Sharp-Fields of Olive Branch, MS, two grandchildren Tisha Walker of Reisterstown, MD and Kenneth T. Sharp of Ashburn, VA.  Six great grandchildren Kendall Sharp, Darion Sharp, Aliya Sharp, Chelse' Walker, Arille Sharp and Lucas Ragoonath.  One brother Peter Sharp Jr. (Easter Lee) from Shaw, MS, Two Sisters Anice Jordan and Mildred Ducksworth from Greenville, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.  Special Friends, Major Evans, Charles Rucks, Donald Palmore, Ed Griffin all from Maryland, Era Simms, J.C. Williams, Frank Price from Greenville, MS, Pearl Jackson Trotter of PA, and the late Charles  Reaves of Cleveland, OH.
