Mattie Lee (Hackett) Vinson Hardin was a resident of Racine for 38 years. She departed this life to be with the Lord on the Lord's Day, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 6:30 a.m. in her home. Mattie was born January 15, 1928 to the union of Phil Hackett and Cassie (Walls) Hackett in Magnolia, Mississippi, where she was born the 19th of 22 children. She attended school in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age. In 1941, she was united in marriage to henry Vinson in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. In 1959, she and her children moved to Shaw, Mississippi. In Shaw, she joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as usher under the leadership of Pastor L.J. Young. She worked for Bolivar County Head Start Program in Shaw, Mississippi for about 10 years. In 1975, she moved to Racine and worked at Ridgewood Nursing Home and Value Village. After moving to Racine, she joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the late Pastor W.G. Lyons. In 1981, she was united in marriage to the late James Hardin of Racine, Wisconsin. Afterwards, Mattie moved her membership to Holy Disciple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.W. Scaife, where her husband served as a Deacon. In 1983, she united with the Glorious Light Church of The Living God under the leadership of one of her sons, Pastor Bobby J. Vinson. In her personal life, Mama Mattie enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, her family, reading the Word of God, and her church family. She was a prayer warrior, and she loved the Lord. Mama was also a whipping Mom.
