Mary Catherine Nichols was born in Ruleville, MS to John and Magnolia Nichols. She attended Ruleville Central High School, where she graduated in 1979. She was a devoted mother of Calvin, Kimberely and Brian, and embraced her faith early accepting Christ at Holmes Chapel in Drew, MS. After high school, Mary moved to Atlanta Georgia where she built a career in food service managing at Church's Chicken in Decatur before retiring from the Georgia Public Schools. Known for her lively personality and love of family gatherings, she was the life of the party, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her dad, John Nichols and grandsons Calvin Nichols Jr. and Jacob John Smith.

To cherish her memories are her mother, Magnolia Nichols of Ruleville, MS; special friend, Johnnie Calhoun (Fox) of Decatur, GA; children, Calvin Nichols of Decatur, GA, Kimberely Smith (Jamario) of Jackson, MS, and Brian Nichols (Sametra) of Decatur, GA, siblings Fannie Cox (John) of Stockbridge, GA, Susie Anderson of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Tracy Nichols (Dr. Trenita) of Villa Rica, GA, Mark and Johnny Nichols of Ruleville, MS. Shelia Hamer of Marietta, GA, and Jerome Nichols (Inis) of Colorado Springs CO, grandchildren Bryanna Luckett, Rayanna Thredgill, Lauryn Smith, Zoey Smith, Jabriyah Nichols, and special nieces and nephews Timmy Nichols, Travis Cox, Johnathan Cox, Verconta Cox, Stephanie Nichols-Turner, Artavious Cox, Raven Cox, Tenyia Nichols, Timila Nichols, Demarcus Watson, Cedric Nichols, Lafaye Thomas, Ontario Ford, Johnetta and Rokeisha Ross and a host of great nieces and nephews and family and friends.
