Mrs. Mary P. Johnson, affectionately known as "Maelee," was born May 19, 1952 in Tralake(Washington County) Mississippi to the late James and Alberta Powell. Mary was the 7th child out of 10 children. Although Mary was the youngest child, she was the go to family member during questionable and trouble times. She was the one family and friends relied on to provide answers, shelter and advice when the need arose. Mary's early education begain in Arcola, Mississippi and continued at the Western Line School District(O'Bannon) in Greenville, Mississippi. She left school prior to graduation and moved to Louisiana for better employment opportunities to help her parents move from rural Washington County to Greenville, Mississippi. After her father, James Powell, Sr. took gravely ill, Mary moved back to Greenville to help with the care of her father until his passing. She furthered her education by attending night school at Coleman High School to obtain her GED, while working during the day. Mary worked selflessly at various places of employment, (Greenville Mill, Chicago Mill, Fruit of the Loom of Jeanerette, Louisiana and Fruit of the Loom of Greenville, Mississippi). Her latest place fo employent was in the Home Health Field, that proved to be her calling because of her love for elderly, handicapped, and others; unable to care for themselves. Mary worked in this capacity until her own health began to dwindle. Mary accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized and joined Jake's Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B.T. Benson, where she remained a faithful member until her passing. Mary loved her Pastor and church family. Mary met William(Dubbee) Johnson, whom turned out to be her soul mate. Mary began her taransition on Saturday, September 14, 2013. SHe set her eyes on the Kingdom of God. Monday, September 16, 2013 at 9:21 p.m., she took her savior's hand and entered into the Kingdom of God and claimed her mansion.
