Marcia Lee James was born on December 17, 1948, to the late Lorinne James. Marcia accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church, later joining Baptist Grove Church in Sunflower, MS, under the leadership of Rev. A. C. Gilmore.

Marcia attended and graduated from Gentry High School in Indianola, MS and later went to Coahoma Community College, where she earned her degree in early education.

Marcia worked as a dedicated headstart assistant and teacher for 30 years.

Marcia departed this life on December 18, 2025, at home, surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, great aunt, and oldest daughter, Mechelle.

She leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy: one daughter, Temesha James of Sunflower, MS. Three sons: Ray James, Steve James, and Michael James, all of Sunflower, MS. Fourteen grandchildren: Cornelious Williams, Artavius Williams, Changa Williams, Lemarcus James, Nico Smith, Zaanshia James, Zavion James, all of Sunflower, MS. Krystal Short of Shaw, MS, Yacelyn James of Indianola, MS, Mechelle James and Michael James of Ames, IA, Kashanna Cokleman and Kashayla Coleman of Austin, TX, and Devarious James of Tupelo, MS. Eighteen great-grandchildren, one adopted granddaughter, Sunflower, MS, Javaundashaye Carter, one special cousin, Frank James of Blaine, MS, two special friends, Hosie Adams of Sunflower, MS and Mary Williams of Indianola, MS, and a host of cousins, distance relatives, and friends.
