Lucille Thompson Myles was born June 20, 1930, to the late James Thompson, Sr. and Olivia Gregory Thompson in Greenville, Mississippi.  She was the second of four children.  She accepted Christ on April 13, 1944, at New Jerusalem MB Church under the pastorage of Reverend J.V. Haywood and was baptized in Lake Ferguson.  She remained a faithful member of NJMBC for almost 80 years, serving faithfully in the adult choir, Women's Missionary Society, Sunday School, and various other Outreach Ministries.  She implemented the church's Leadership School and was actively involved for MANY years in the State, Local, and National Conventions and Congress of Christian Education.

On July 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, Robert Williams Myles.  This union of love continued for 40 years until Robert answered the Master's call on April 11, 1994.  Together Lucille and Robert successfully reared a son, Robert James Myles, and two daughters, Tyran Epps and Caroline J. Gaston.  They were also instrumental in touching the lives of a most dear niece, Brenda F. Sterling, and  a nephew, Emile Thompson, Jr., who resided with them during later years.

She was educated in the Greenville Public School system.  Upon graduation in 1949 from Coleman High School, she furthered her studies at Mississippi Vocational College (MVSU - Itta Bena, Mississippi), receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in 1961.  She continued her studies at Jackson State College (JSU-Jackson, Mississippi) pursuing both her Master's and Specialist degrees, including certification in Special Education.

Lucille was always concerned with education; therefore, after receiving her BS degree, she immediately embarked upon her teaching journey at Nugent Center (AKA Ray Brooks School).  After briefly teaching, she quickly recognized that children with special needs were her passion and thus began devoting tireless efforts to improve programs in the Greenville Public School district to meet their needs.  During the early 1970s, she was appointed the first African American Special Education Director for the Greenville Public School district where she remained until her retirement June 1985.  After retirement, she acquired the spirit of volunteerism and did so in every segment of NJMBC, the Greenville Public School district and the City of Greenville while encouraging everyone she met to vote and become involved in their community.  She was further involved with the Mississippi State Federation of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc., National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, the Queen City Garden and Civic Club, Youth Garden and Civic Club, Greenville Association of Educators, Mississippi Association of Educators, the National Association of Educators, and various other religious, educational, and community affiliations.

On March 8, 2024, after 93 years of "having her say and doing it her way," God beckoned and she did not hesitate to answer the seemingly long-awaited call to reunite with her beloved son, Robert James; husband, Robert W. Myles; parents, James and Olivia Thompson; sister, Bernice Thompson; brothers, James Thompson, Sr., and Emile Thompson, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Henry A. Myles and Sam H. Myles, sisters-in-law, Mary C. Bell and Pinkie M. Myles; granddaughter, BerTonya J. Haynes; best friend, Mrs. Lee Esther McCraney; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Forever cherishing her memories are her loving and devoted daughters, Tyran B. Epps (Tony) of Ellenwood, GA and Caroline J. Gaston of Killeen, TX; grandsons, Larry R. Epps (Ashley) of Ellenwood, GA, Daniel D. Walton of Atlanta, GA, Joe L. Allen. III and Horace W. Gaston of Killeen, TX; great-grandsons, Carter and Jackson Epps of Ellenwood, GA; an especially dear niece and great-niece, Brenda F. Sterling and Yasha L. Sterling of Calumet, IL; an especially year nephew and great-nephew, Emile Thompson, Jr., of Chicago, IL and Adrian Sterling of Calumet, IL; deeply loved cousins, Rose Bias, Jack Ellis, Sr., Edward Ellis, Sr., Ben Thomas, and Marie Green of New Orleans, LA, and Rose Turner (Pudding) of Waterproof, LA; godsons, O.C. Clayton, Jr., of Carson, CA, Mark A. Clayton of Greenville, MS, and Clifton E. Henry of Atlanta, GA; childhood, life-long buddy and best friend of over 80 years, Mrs. Worthy Clayton of Greenville, MS; extended loving and caring family, Gloria and Ben Sturdevant and Ruby Turner of Greenville, MS; and a multitude of other cousins, relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.
