Reflections of Lovie Young Patterson - Mommie's Life
HER BIRTH
Lovie Young Patterson was born on June 15, 1933, to the late Gaston and Elizabeth Young, Sr., in Winterville, Mississippi and later moved to Greenville, Mississippi. Lovie was the middle child.
HER FAITH
Lovie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Kindling Star Church in Greenville, Mississippi, where she faithfully served for over 60 years. She loved the Lord and served as an assistant secretary and sang in the choir.
HER EARTHLY PURPOSE
Lovie was known as a "Great Mathematician". She taught at Greenville Public School District for over 50 years, she also worked as McDonalds, Kroger, the Washington County Juvenile Detention Center and McDonalds for over 25 years.
HER EDUCATION
Mommie was educated in the Western Line School District graduating from O'Bannon High School in 1953, she later enrolled in the Arkansas Agricultural Mechanical & Normal College in 1958, The University of Mississippi in 1971, Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1969, Tennessee A & I State University in 1968, Portland State College, Delta State and Jackson State University.
HER ASCENSION
Preceding Lovie in death were her parents Gaston, Sr. and Elizabeth Young, her sister, Willie B Mitchell of Greenville, MS; and her eldest of two sons, Lloyd Donald Patterson. After Mommie's health failed, her youngest of two sons, Frederick Kirk Patterson personally took care of her. Regardless of the challenges, he was right there! In the afternoon of March 9, 2025, Lovie yielded her spirit unto God and entered a place of rest after God decided 91 years of faithful was enough. She quietly departed her body and accepted the Master's hand.
HER HERITAGE
Lovie leaves to cherish her memories and carry on her legay is her son, Frederick Kirk Patterson of Greenville, MS; two grandsons, Frederick Kirk Patterson II, of Greenville, MS and Brian Patterson of Greenville, MS. Additionally, she leaves a brother, Gaston (Blanche) Young, Jr., of Indianapolis, IA; a sister, Cheryl (Eric) Clark Hawkins of Greenville, MS; she leaves a host of nieces, great-nieces, great-great nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-great nephews, cousins, extended family, former co-workers, friends and her beloved Kindling Star Church Family.
