Obituary

It is said that there are three words in the English vocabulary that are more solemn than all of the others.  They are life, death and eternity.  Life is more solemn than death; to live is more serious than to die.  The object of Christ's death was life.  A Christian's death gives them a more abundant life.  Death is a joyful messenger of peace whose kind hand open to the weary pilgrim the gate of immortality and lets the oppressed go free.

A busy life came to a close on February 3, 2018 when Lawrence C Thompson was called to his heavenly home.

Lawrence was born and reared in this wonderful city that he loves so dearly which is called Mound Bayou.  He was very dedicated to his city where he served as Alderman for twenty(20 years).  He also loves the Lord and his church where he serves as chairman of the deacon ministry, president of the choir, Superintendent of the Sunday school and serves with the Bolivar County Congress of Christian Education.  He taught in the public school system for thirty(30) years.  He graduated from Mound Bayou School in the class of 1954. and later graduated from Mississippi Valley State College(University).  He loved to sing!  He sang with the Mound Bayou Male Chorus for years and later joined the Shelby Male Chorus where he remained until his death.
