On January 13, 1960, Dorothy Escoe and Manuel Smith, Sr., welcomed a son into their lives and to Greenville, Mississippi and named him John L. Mosby. John departed this life on Tuesday October 20,2020 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

John confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. He was a humble man of God and enjoyed reading the Bible and studying the Word of God.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Greenville and continued his education after his family relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he graduated high school in 1981. John furthered his education at Malcolm X Community College and then returned to Mississippi to attend Hinds County Community College in Jackson. he earned several certifications during his tenure at both of these schools.

John's most awarding attribute was being a devoted husband and father. he was ALWAYS there for his family and did whatever he could for those he considered to be dear to him. There was an undying mother-son relationship between he and his mother. Their mother-son bond was so strong that she relocated to Jackson just to be near him and remained there for more than ten (10) years before her death. John had such a deep love for his family that he treasured the relationship he had with both his maternal and paternal siblings, as well as taking on the fatherly role to several of his nieces and nephews. He had a heart for everyone. His hobbies included being No. 1 Worldwide fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, rooting for the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox and wearing sport apparel, jerseys, and caps in particular. He also enjoyed listening to the Blues.

He was employed with Air National Guard as Lead Facility Maintenance in Pearl, MS for 15 years and was the owner of Mosby Cleaning Service. After relocating to Memphis, Tennessee in 2014, he changed his career path to field of healthcare and was gainfully employed with several medical, home care and nursing home facilities. He had a love of caring for others and was instrumental in the caring of his mother-in-law, Mildred Collins, who preceded him in death early this year. He also was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Escoe and Manuel Smith, Sr.; a brother; Charles a. Mosby; a niece: Aaleyah Williams; a nephew: Dominique Mosby; and his grandparents: Tommy and Everlee Mosby.

John will forever liv on in the hearts of his ling and devoted wife of 25 years. Mosby of Memphis, TN; three (3) granddaughters; Hannah Bass and Farrah Bellamy of Jackson, MS and Riley Canada of Memphis, TN; fourteen (14) sisters: Dorothy, Patricia, Cynthia, Angela, Jannis, Beverly, Marilyn and Veronica Mosby all of Chicago, IL, Debra, Gloria, Rosie, and Loretta Smith all of Greenville, MS and Ella Smith of IL; six(6) brothers: Lawrence Mosby of Chicago, IL, Eric, Charles (Teresa) and Reginald Kingdom, Calvin Smith all of Greenville, MS and Manuel Smith, Jr of LA; three (3) aunts: Mary Lewis and Alberta Mosby of Greenville, MS and Mildred Gadison of Chicago, IL; four (4) uncles: Howard (Gloria) and Ben Mosby of Greenville, MS, Robert and Fred Mosby of Clinton, OK; two (2) special nephews: Quinton and Gregory Mosby of Indianapolis, IN; two (2) special nieces: Rosalind and Loren Mosby of Chicago, IL; four (4) special cousins: Janet W. Wells, Marcia Watson, Delia Lewis and Rether Ervin all of Greenville, MS; a host brother and sister-in-law, Ronny and Patricia Canada of Greenville, MS; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
