Joe Willie Hill, Sr. was born on August 23, 1928 in Chickasaw County, Houston, Mississippi. He was the second son of Mr. Benton and Nannie Mosley. In 1929, at the age of ten, Pastor Hill accepted Christ as his personal Savior. In the fall of 1939, he moved to Bolivar County where he received his primary education from the Bolivar County Public Schools. He accepted his calling to preach at the Saint Peter's Rock Church where Rev. Terrence Rash is the Pastor. During that same year, he moved to Chicago, Illinois and began his Christian Education at Chicago Baptist Seminary in 1965. He received his Doctoral Degree of Divinity from Agape Bible College in West Memphis, Arkansas. He married Elena and to this union eight children were born. Later he married Alberta Hill who preceded him in death. In 1997 he married Ethel J. Hill. Pastor Hill began his ministry as the Youth Minister at Greater Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H.Y Lenzy where he served from 1968-1972. Pastor Hill was called to come back to Mississippi in 1972 to pastor New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as shepherd of the flock for two years. He worked along with the congregation to improve the building by adding bathrooms, elevating the choir stand, adding a dining room as well as a pastor's study. In June of 1974, God sent Pastor Hill to lead the flock at West Missionary Baptist Church in West, Mississippi where he served until his health failed. Pastor Hill and his flock built a new sanctuary in 1975 and doubled the size of the church that included a baptizing pool, shower stalls, finance and business room, church library, and an education wing. Pastor Hill was called to organize and pastor Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Renova. Once again, he found himself striving to improve a building for the services of the Almighty God. He added rooms and bathrooms. Pastor Hill served in many leadership capacities which included Moderator of the Bolivar County Association of Education for twenty years, Dean of the Holmes County District Association for fifteen years, and longstanding member of the National Congress of Christian Education. He was also an instructor for the General Missionary Baptist and Educational State Convention for fifteen years. Under the leadership as pastor, three young en were called into the ministry; Minister Joe Earl Turner, Sr., Minister Edward Turner, and Minister Anthony Tidwell. Pastor Hill was an exemplary man.
