Eugene Smith was born September 23, 1953 to Betty L. Smith and Mose Dancer in Sunflower County, MS.  Eugene was raised by his loving grandparents Julia and Johnnie Smith Sr.  Eugene departed this earthly life on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, MS.  Eugene was a valuable key to his family.  He was known as the "historian' due to his vas knowledge of the Smith family history and his collection of photos.  He was a faithful member of his church where he served for over 40 years as the transportation director, assisted the treasurer and helped maintain the building until his health began to fail him.  Eugene was also dedicated to the athletics department at RCHS assisting wherever needed, rarely missing a game whether at home or away.  He was affectionately named the teams manager.  Eugene will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, friends, Delmar Church of Christ and Ruleville Central High School.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents; Betty Smith Crowell and Mose Dancer, grandparents; Julia and Johnnie Smith Sr., sister; Maxine Crowell, three aunts/sisters; Estella Mason, Laura Crowell and Mary Smith, five uncles/brothers; Johnnie Jr., George, Floyd, Lloyd and Julius Smith.  Left to cherish his many memories are his two sisters; Jessie Mae (Issac) Shackelford of Sebring, FL and Christine (Theodore) Jordan of Ruleville, MS, three brothers; Jimmie Lee Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Johnnie Thomas Crowell of Renova, MS and Willie Crowell of Webb, MS, two uncles/brothers; Arthur Lee Smith of Evansville, IN and Freddie (Linda) Smith of Rialto, CA, one special aunt; Mattie Smith of Ruleville, MS along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
