The late Dorthia Jean "Red" McDaniels-Thomas was born to the late J.P. Townsend and Theola Taylor McDaniels-Townsend on November 29, 1953.  She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.  She was a member of the New Mount Zion M.B. Church under the leadership of John Taylor until her heavenly Father called her home.

Dorthia Jean "Red" is preceded in death by one (1) sister, Joyce Townsend, and five (5) brothers, Alfred McDaniels, Sr., J.B. Townsend, Michael Townsend, J.C. Townsend and Lamont Townsend.

Dorthia Jean "Red" departed this life on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville, MS.  She worked diligently in  healthcare for many years until her retirement from South Sunflower County Hospital.

Dorthia Jean "Red" leaves to cherish her loving memories:  her husband, Levi Thomas, one daughter, Shelia McDaniels, two (2) sons, Dontae Thomas and Lavell Thomas all of Peoria, IL; two (2) sisters:  Lucette Townsend and Debra Townsend both of Ruleville, MS; six (6) brothers; J.P. (Clydia) Townsend, Thomas Townsend, Danny (Sharon) Townsend, Johnny Qualls, Johnny (Jacqueline) Collier all of Ruleville, MS and Donald Townsend of Chicago, IL, 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a favorite cousin, Earnline Davis and Levester Taylor of Chicago, IL, and a special childhood friend, Alice Miller; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

"Red", "Dot", Jean McDaniels, all of which she was fondly known by family and friends has gone home to take her rest.
