On February 1, 1932, a seedling was planted as Dorothy Armstrong, born to the late Eddie and Clarissie Washington, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Dorothy's root sank deep into the nurturing soils of family, and she grew strong, fed by the enlightening sunshine of education. She was educated in the Clarksdale Consolidated School System and received her high school diploma from Myrtle Hall in 1952. She continued her education, receiving her A.A. degree from Coahoma Junior College in 1957; a bachelor's degree from Jackson State University in 1959; and earning an advanced degree in elementary education from Delta State University in 1974. Dorothy was a well-loved and well-respected educator who helped to shape the lives of her beloved students at the H.M. Nailor Elementary School for 40 years before retiring from that institution of primary education in 2000. Further enriching her life, Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to James D. Wardlow on July 4, 1952. The two shared a bond that lasted over 60 years. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children, two girls and one boy, whom they loved dearly and who dearly loved them. On January 11, 1998, Dorothy was initiated into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA). Incorporated, Iota Delta Chapter. An actively involved and supportive member of AKA, Dorothy was looking forward to travelling with her Iota Delta sorors to the South Eastern Regional Conference, which will be held next week in Memphis, Tennessee. However, Dorothy was called to make a different journey. She became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 2, 2013 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
