Evangelist Dorothy Vicks was born on March 4, 1946 in Greenville, MS to the late Rufus and Willie B. Winder. She confessed Christ at the age of twelve under the leadership of Reverend Hicks, Mt. Bethlehem M.B. Church of Greenville. She later joined Christian Light in Metcalfe, MS under the leadership of Reverend Milton Evans. In 1981, after being led by the spirit of God, she united to Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church under Dr. Albert Mark Hines, Sr. where she remained on the ministerial staff as an Evangelist, choir member and altar worker. Evangelist Vicks was united in marriage to Mr. Willie Vicks, Sr. on October 10, 1966. In 1981 she received her license and ordination in 1995 under the leadership of Dr. Albert Hines. Evangelist Vicks spent her years in ministry traveling the local and surrounding communities preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which was her first-love. She remained fearless and faithful until she departed the earth January 6th.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Ann Winder, and two (2) sisters, Ethel Johnson and Mary Anderson. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories seven (7) children: Teretha (Carl) Robinson of Beulah, MS, Anthony Winder, Willie Vicks, Patricia Vicks, Michael Vicks, Raymond (Nicole) Vicks, and Timothy Vicks all of Greenville, MS. Four (4) step-children: Willie Vicks, Dorothy Vicks, Geneva Hardy and Evelyn Hardy of Metcalfe, MS. One brother-in-law, Frank Vicks (Susie) of Greenville, MS. She adopted her oldest biological daughter's four(4) children and reared them after her death: Youlanda Winder, Tarishan Winder, Michael Winder and Latonya Winder. She has twenty-five (25) grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, three (3) (God-children) children; Mildred Wright, Reginald Cotton & Jacquelyn McCray-White, friends and love ones.
