A time to be born....
Dorothy Jean Winford Scurlark was born in Sunflower County Mississippi on November 27, 1956 to the late AC and Lula Winford. She was the eighth child of ten children. She attended Sunflower County Public Schools, graduating from Ruleville Central High in 1976. She later graduated from Albany Technical Institute(now College) in Albany GA with a diploma in Early Childhood Education.
A Christian Life......
Dorothy loved the Lord and was devoted to His Church. In 1977, she met James E. Scurlark and together in 1978, they were baptized by Dr. Harvey M. Jackson in Mound Bayou Mississippi and added to the Church of Christ. She, along with James, worshipped at the Delmar Ave Church of Christ in Ruleville MS under the leadership of Bro. Glenn Burgess, Sr. Dorothy and James were married on November 17, 1979 shortly thereafter relocated to Batesville MS, where they worshipped under the leadership of Bro. Colburn. In 1982, the family relocated to Senatobia Mississippi worshipping at the Gilmore Ave Church of Christ under the leadership of Bro. Michael Cathey. In 1987, now in Albany GA, the family worshipped at the US 19 Church of Christ under the leadership of Bro. Marion Holiday, Jefferson St. Church of Christ under the leadership of Bro. Malcolm Hall, Sr. and the River Road Church of Churist under the leaderships of Bro. Arthur Medlock and Bro. Robert Clemmons. In 2007, she began worshipping at the Church of Christ in Blakely GA under the leadership of her husband, James E. Scurlark. Dorothy remained faithful to the Lord and His Church until her untimely death. She was truly loved and will be truly missed by her Church family.
A time to work....
While in Albany, Dorothy was employed with the Dougherty County School System. After leaving the school system, she became the owner and director of Tinker Bell's Learning Center. She adored her children at Tinker Bell's and enjoyed shaping their young minds. She was overjoyed to know that many of her "Tinker Bell Babies" are now college graduates.
