Dorothy Jean  Scott was born on September 5, 1963 to the late Dora Scott and Dave Daniels.  She departed this earthly live to live eternally with the Lord on May 19, 2019.

Her early years were spent with her mother and siblings in the Huspucknee community in Bolivar County, MS.  Later the family would relocate to Shelby.  She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Greater St. James MB Church in Shelby, MS.   In the mid-1970s, Dorothy lived in the home of Woodrow and Mae Hardwick in Calhoun City, MS.  In Calhoun City, MS.  In Calhoun City, she attended Calhoun City Middle and High Schools and became a member of the Piney Grove CME Church.  These formative years in Calhoun City were spent being a carefree child growing up in rural Mississippi.  Dorothy and her Calhoun City siblings went to school, church and spent the summers working in the garden, playing, listening to the radio, watching television and talking on the telephone.  She remained in Calhoun City until 1979 when she returned to her family and home in Shelby.

After graduating from high school in Shelby, Dorothy attended Job Corps in Crystal Springs, MS where she earned certifications in office management.  Later she moved to Houston, TX.  However, this proved to be too far from her family.  Homesickness for her loved ones in Mississippi prompted her to return to Shelby.

Dorothy worked in law enforcement as a security officer at Parchman for seventeen years and the Bolivar County Jail for nine years.  She also worked in the casino industry in Tunica, MS.  She would often say, "It wasn't easy, but I did what I had to do to support my children and me."  And that was Dorothy, she did not shy away from stepping up to the plate to handle her business.  She worked hard, played hard, and loved hard.  There was never any half stepping or slacking with Dorothy.  She was going to give it her best from start to finish.

Left behind to cherish her memories are two children: Shamekia Scott of Killeen, TX and Toyle Scott of Savannah, GA; three god children_ Ricky Ogburn, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Marcus Green of Savannah, GA and Saranique Williams of Drew, MS; brothers, Albert Scott of Shelby, MS; Frederick Scott (Tracinda) of Hammond, IN; Charles Hand(Sonya) of Jackson, MS; Willie Daniels of Shelby, MS; Sammie Hand of Cleveland, MS; Larry Hand of Cleveland, MS and Terry hand of Memphis, TN; sisters, Daisy Parker of Shelby, MS; Claretha Dorsey of Memphis, TN; Clarissa Ford of Cleveland, MS; Carolyn Hand of Memphis, TN and Chiquita Walls of Oxford, MS.  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Rosie, Bobbie, Roxanne and Linda; two brothers, Dewayne and Sylvester.
