Dorothy "Jean" Ford was born on October 6, 1950 in Shelby, Mississippi to the late Percy and Rachel Ticy Jones. She was the youngest of four children; Bessie Jones in Shelby, MS, and Cora Scott and Samuel Jones both preceded her in death. At an early age, Dorothy accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined St. Peter's Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. D.T. Irving. In 1969, she graduated from Broad Street High School. She later moved to the north to enhance her life. She lived in Detroit, Michigan in the early 70's where she worked with organizations to provide care to the sick and to children. She returned to Mississippi to be closer to her family. In 1975, she became a business woman and owner of Ford's Food Center Grocery Store in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. She became well known to the community as a wonderful cook. The business was later sold and became TGS Grocery Store and she remained a faithful employee for over 20 years. People would drive for miles to experience her juicy hamburgers and her macaroni and cheese, which was made to perfection. She was an active member of St. Peter's Rock MB Church and demonstrated her passion for cooking by participating in most of the church's functions. Dorothy was a devoted person to the people in her life. She kept her word and followed through on a promise. She cherished her three children and loved her family. She offered many levels of support to her friends and was known for being easy to talk to. Dorothy departed this life on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:27 p.m. at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. God called her home and welcomed her with open arms into His Kingdom.
