Doris was born November 26, 1947 in Yazoo City, MS to Bessie Louvenia and Floyd Lee Johnson.  She started preschool at the Greenville Industrial College on 8th Street where her Aunt Mollie Phillips was the administrator.  She attended Lucy Webb and Sacred heart Elementary School graduating from Coleman High School in 1965.  Doris accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mercy Seat M.B. Church by her grandfather Rev. L.J. Jordan, Sr.  participating in all the church activities at that time - BTU with Aunt Mollie Phillips, choirs and Sunday school.

After retirement Doris worked in the Hattiesburg Library System and the U.S. Census Bureau and various part time jobs because she like keeping busy.

She was passionate about genealogy and family history and became one of the family historians collecting reams of information about all parts of our family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, nephew Frank IV and her husband, Charles L. Davis.

She is survived by her sisters:  Mrs. Sherrilyn Taylor (Wesley) of Greenville, MS, Dr. Leah McFerren (Harris) of Atlanta, GA and her brother Floyd (Felecia) of Gary, IN.; Nieces, Lorrayne Johnson, Suzette Jordan and Shelby McFerren; Nephews, Floyd Johnson III, George, along with a host of other treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.

Doris was thrilled with music and had perfect pitch.  She played many musical instruments including the piano, organ, stringed instruments and woodwinds.  She was church musician for several churches in Hattiesburg and later in Greenville before her retirement as church musician.

She was a gifted writer and always the student.

Doris was a devoted Christian woman who was consistently striving to live the Christian life, treating others as she wanted to be treated and always seeing the best in others.

Scriptures that directed her life included:  Psalms 119: 105-112; Philippians 1:21; Matthew 11:28-30; Isaiah 43:1-3; 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

"We are never alone in our adversity.  Adversity can be a precious gift from God
