Obituary

Coela Tate Sanders was born September 2, 1913 to Gertrude Tate in Carthage, MS. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church in Carthage. She was called home to be with her heavenly Father on April 16th at Delta Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Coela attended High School at Alcorn and college in Kosciusko, MS. Upon completing college, she taught school in Leake County, MS until she relocated to Gary, Indiana. After relocating to Gary, Indiana, she met and married John Sanders and was married for over 50 years until his death. While in Indiana, Coela worked at the Kingsbury Ammunition Plant. Upon her husband's retirement, they relocated in Deming, New Mexico. She then joined St. Luke Episcopal Church where she remained faithful until she returned to Mississippi. While in Deming, Coela was affiliated with the Council on Aging as an Ombudsman as well as many other capacities. She received numerous awards and honors for her work with the elderly. Coela was a resident of Legacy Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and brought smiles to the faces of fellow residents and staff.
