Charlie Mae, as she was affectionately called, was born November 27, 1937 to the late Aaron Pates, Sr. and Rosie Sims in Scott, Mississippi. She is the oldest of 14 children. She departed this earthly life: April 15, 2021. She was educated at Delta Pine II in Scott, Mississippi.

As a young adult she worked at Headstart in Merigold, MS. She had a passion for sowing and was a seamstress from the age of 14 years old, over 60 years, until her health declined. She had a love for children and was a community babysitter for 40 years.

At a young age she married Roosevelt Hunter, Sr. They had 10 children: 6 girls and 4 boys. They later moved to Mound Bayou, Mississippi. There she joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church but later moved her membership to Azion M.B. Church where she served as a Mother of the church until her health declined.

She leaves to cherish 4 daughters: Debra White, Sandra, Peggy, Deloris Hunter, and Doristine Hunter all of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; 2 sons: Dennis Hunter of Kansas City, Kansas, and Frankie Hunter of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; 12 siblings: Junior (Lula) Pates, Charles (Christella) Pates, Rachel (LC) Northington, and Leo Pates all of Cleveland, Mississippi, Roy (Kathy) Pates of Renova, Mississippi, Thelma Gibson and Nathaniel (Ruby) Pates of Rosedale, Mississippi, Sylvester Pates of Homestead, Florida, Ezel (Nona) Pates of Chicago, Illionois, Edna (James) Beamon of Flint, Michigan, Willie (Daisy) Pates and Terry (Alvin) Daniels of Merigold, Mississippi; 28 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, customers, her special babies she has babysitted throughout the years, a special extended family Eugene (Joann) Brown, Jr. and a goddaughter, Timolin Howard of Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Aaron and Rosie Pates, husband, Roosevelt Hunter, Sr., daughters: Hester and Marilyn Hunter, sons; Sylvester and Roosevelt Hunter, Jr., and her brother; Aaron Pates.
