Charlie Lee "Hoss" Edwards leaves the world a sad, much richer place. He was born November 19, 1922 in Scott, Mississippi to the late Mary Francis Davis and Charlie Lee Edwards. He accepted Christ at an early age and was raised attending various Baptist churches throughout the Mississippi Delta. For the last several years he attended St. Peter's Rock M.B. Church in Cleveland, Mississippi. Charlie Lee was orphaned early in life when his father was killed in an altercation and his mother became too ill to care for him. He was raised by a family friend. Years later he reported having a hard life, but the young people surrounding him did not know a disappointed, disillusioned, disenfranchised Charlie Lee Edwards. The Charlie Lee Edwards we knew and loved was loving and generous. He was reunited with his birth family in his 40s. He loved family gatherings and was a regular at family reunions when we were growing up. He also loved children and showed this by adopting and raising a son from birth. Charlie Lee was very industrious during his life. He worked long, hard days as a farm machine operator on several farms in West Bolivar County, Mississippi. Charlie Lee met and married Ms. Idella Clay more than 40 years ago. They built a life and home together on Aloe Street in Cleveland, Mississippi where family, friends and neighbors were always welcome.
