Obituary

Charles Wadlington was born June 4, 1942 to the union of the late Aaron and Hermean Wadlington, in Carrollton, Mississippi. He departed this life on Sunday June 6, 2021.

Charles moved to Shaw in 1949 with his family, He received his formal education in the public school systems of Carrollton and Shaw, Mississippi. Charles accepted Christ at Ebenezer C.M.E. Church under the leadership of Pastor Walls of Carrollton, MS. Charles attended Parker's Chapel AME Church in Shaw, Mississippi after his family moved to Shaw. Charles rededicated his his life to Christ in 1977, when he and his family became members of New Jerusalem COGIC, Chicago, IL, under the leadership of Pastor T. Brown. After returning to Mississippi, he placed his church membership with Parkers Chapel, and dedicated himself to the Ministry work until his death.

Charles left Mississippi and moved to Chicago, IL after leaving high school. He was gainfully employed with the William Bowen Company and later with the City of Chicago Department of Transportation for many years, until his retirement in 1972.

Charles married Rosie McCarthy of Chicago, IL. Rosie and Charles were married 38 years until she preceded him in death in 2009. Charles and Rosie relocated to Shaw, MS in 1972. In Shaw, Charles returned fulltime to his favorite hobby, gardening. Charles loved growing variety of fruits and vegetables. He was fondly called "Farmer John" by some family members.

Chalres was preceded in death by his wife Rosie Wadlington, his daughter: Tapitha Freeman, grandson, Charles Freeman, three brothers: Alvin Wadlington, Oliver Wadlington, and William Wadlington. Four sisters: Lois Fay Butler, Lucille Kyles, Laura Brooks, and Eva Williams.

Charles leaves to cherish his memories; three daughters: Katrice (Christopher) Tolbert of South Holland, IL; Shirley (Lamar) Woods of Memphis, TN; and Kenya Wadlington of Shaw, Ms. Nine grandchildren: Jelisha, Jerome, Shalamar, Jasmine, Kira, Tomorrow, Ciarra, and Andra. Seventeen great grandchildren, three sisters: Marva Howard, Emma (Tobe) Jackson, and Margarette Wadlington all of Chicago, IL, and three brothers: Gene (Augusta), Aaron (Joyce), and Lee (Rosia) Wadlington all of Shaw, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
