Charles was born in Greenville, MS on February 15, 1949 to the late Percy Hemphill and the late Janie Taylor.  He was predeceased by his son, Kendell Edwards.

After graduating from high school in 1967, he attended college, and later became the manager at Fine Vines in Greenville, MS, and the Hershey Company in Memphis, TN.  He played basketball and also fell in love with tennis.

Charles' memory will be cherished by his loving family:  sisters, Mary Taylor-Jackson, Clara Bailey, Joyce (Frank) Smith, Sandra Ross and Equilla Lewis; nephews, Gregory Taylor, Bennie L. Spencer, Jr., Myron Spencer; nieces, Monica R. Taylor, Rhoda Holmes, Waukanda Brooks; son, Edward (Felicia) Thomas; grandchildren, other family and friends, including special Houston friends, Pastor Davis, Bro. Myles, Willie, Jeri and Renee.
