Mr. Booker T. Williams, Sr. was a man of faith, strength, leadership, persistence, and love.  He was born to the late W.T. Sr. and Mittie Williams on April 1, 1931.  His arrival and childhood was eclipsed by the Great Depression, Racial Segregation, and hardship in America.  It was his strength and determination that undergirded his giftedness as a leader, husband, father, sibling, entrepreneur and friend.

He was wedded to Mrs. Cora Lee Davis Williams on December 16, 1952.  There union for sixty-seven years was fortified by commitment to the vows they held as young adults.  There union resulted in the births of nine children; Betty(Dr. Paul) Jackson, the late Booker T. (Dorothy) Williams, Jr.,  Virginia (Gregory) Richmond, Calvin (Lynn) Williams, the late Nathaniel Williams, the late Bobby Williams.  The late Andrew Williams, Bernice (Darryl) Kirkland and Sharon (James) Newell.  Their fruitfulness has resulted in dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Their quiver remains blessed and full.

Booker T. also deeply loved is siblings and extended family.  His sisters and brothers include nine brothers and twelve sisters:  Luther (Cora mae) McGee of Hayti, MO; Jack (Leslie) Williams and James (Gloria) Williams both of Chicago, IL; Willie(Celia) Williams of Starksville, MS; Tommie Pearl (Clauzel) Gamble of Itta Bena, MS; Fannie Lou Harmon and Annie Bell Foster of Greenville, MS; Alberta Thomas and Mittie Williams of Davenport, IO; Ethel (A.J.) Williams of Memphis, TN; Josephine (Arthur) Johnson of Iola, New York; Dr. Viola (Willie) Williams McCaskill of Itta Bena, MS; Maggie Angel and Lucy (Mickey) Page of Itta Bena, MS.

He was preceded in death by the following siblings:  L.T. Williams, Erise Williams, W.T. Williams, Jr., James Williams, Robert Lee Williams, Frank Williams, Ethel Williams and Lela Bell Starks.

His career expanded several decades as a truck driver for Lewis Grocery Company in Indianola, MS.  His determination and work ethic was reflected in his integration of his family in a racially transitioning neighborhood and a staunch persistence that his children wold grow to be persons of character, intellect and service to both country and community.  At age 52(1986), he retired from Lewis Grocery Company to become an entrepreneur of his own Williams Trucking Company, Inc.

He was a Christian who took his relationship with God seriously.  He was assured of Christ's presence in his life through encounters in all seasons of marriage, work, and parenting his children, including Oscar (Laverne) Davis, Sr., Gloria Jean (Jerry) Pryor, Jerry(Sharon) Williams, and James (Alfreda) Williams.  He was also a prophetic encourager and mentor to young people whenever and wherever he had the opportunity.  His most favorite people were his grandchildren.  He stated of them, "If I had known grandchildren would be so much fun, I would have had them first!"  He affectionately  named them based on how he experienced them: "Rabbit, Pooh, Little Jr., Peanut, Sharon Jr., Buster, Lil Red, Hot Stuff, Toothpick, Big Man, Big Mac and Lil Mac!"  Booker T. Williams lived long, well, authentically and faithfully.  To God be the glory now and forevermore.  Amen.
