Bennie Lee Marshall of Germantown, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 at the age of 80. After several years of declining health, he died suddenly at home.
Bennie was born outside of Ruleville, MS, on July 20, 1942 to Ben Marshall and Matilda (Lady) Flowers Marshall. He was the youngest of two children. Bennie moved to Greenville as a child and attended Sacred Heart School and Church. He spent his senior year and graduated from Coleman HS in 1960. He attended Jackson State University, where he met his wife Lucinda and majored in math. They graduated in 1964 and moved to St. Louis where they were married shortly after. In St. Louis he obtained his MBA in Finance from Washington University. He also had his first child, Derek, while there. The family moved to Greenville in 1972 and had their second son, Kenneth shortly after. In Greenville, Bennie worked at Delta Foundation, supporting small business development in the delta. A third son, Stephen was born before the family relocated to Memphis in 1982. In Memphis Bennie worked with TN Valley Ctr for several years before starting his own company, DKS Enterprise (named for his sons). With DKS he began a great career with Burger King restaurants and investments in the Memphis community. In addition to his business exploits, Bennie was most proud of his growing family. Becoming a father-in-law and grandfather were his sources of pride.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Beau Hadley, Rosie Jones and Maxine Marshall. He is survived by his wife Lucinda Marshall; children Derek Marshall(Lori), Kenneth Marshall, and Stephen Marshall ( Lashawn); grandchildren, Jessica Marshall, Derek Marshall, Jr., Kennedy Marshall, and William Marshall; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
