Anderson Harvey, Jr. was born on August 21, 1936 in Shaw, MS to Anderson and Lula M. Harvey, Sr. He was the 3rd of 8 children born to this union. Anderson accepted the Lord as his personal savior at an early age. He attended and graduated from McEvans High School where he was an avid athlete including being a member of the track team which earned him the nickname Sport. Upon completion of high school, Anderson, Jr. moved to Chicago where he subsequently began a long and successful career as an independent business owner for Amoco Oil and as such was able to offer employment opportunities to many neighborhood residents. In addition to his business affiliations, Anderson was also a member of the Garden City Lodge #59, F & AM PH for 41 years, which he joined in 1972. In 1963, Anderson married Barbara Harvey(nee Porsche). In 1980 he married Claudette Brantley (nee Mitchell). In 1984, Anderson retired and relocated to Anchorage, Alaska. There he enjoyed a second career with Stevens International Airport. More enjoyable was the time he spent with his sister, Linnie and her family. It was also in Alaska where Anderson learned to swim and became a proficient swimmer at the age of 55. In 2006, Anderson retired and relocated back to the lower 48 and returned to his childhood home in Shaw, MS. The athlete in him never faded, as he swam and worked out on a regular basis. It was at this time when he also reconnected with Bethlehem No. 1 M.B. Church where he was a devoted and supportive member. Education was important to Anderson's mother. Anderson was able to see this manifest in his own children as he witnessed each of them successfully complete college and go on to work in thier respective professions. In 2012, Anderson relocated back to Chicago due to complications from leukemia. He continued to enjoy being around his family and remained active until God called him home. Anderson never let the grass grow beneath his feet. His family often described him as free spirited. It wasn't uncommon for him to "pop up" out of nowhere and disappear almost as quickly. Ironically, this is exactly the way he exited this life on Friday, October 25, 2013. Anderson was a devoted father, grandfather and brother.
